Two advertising beefs.

"Stop Cleaning. Start Swiffering." From the Swiffer wetjet ad. This slogan used at the end of each Swiffer ad implies that these two things are mutually exclusive. Hmmmm.

"I never knew how much I missed home till I left." This is courtesy of Preet. From the Tim Horton's ad where a young college student in Glasgow is talking about missing his home. Gee, I wonder if there are people out there who miss home while at home?

Another advertising gem.

"Rock bottom rates around the world and to the States." From a Yak Communications TV ad. Yak is a Canadian company which offers reduced rates for long distance calls.

Stupid lines in TV commercials.

"Inside every Honda is a 'Honda' engine." Jacques Villeneuve siad this in a Honda car commercial. I wonder if he realized how silly this statement sounds...as if there would be a Chrysler engine in a Honda car!

"Over half a million Canadians rely on thier own common sense..." From an ING banking commercial. This one is beyond comment.

Bruce Buchanan.

Bruce Buchanan was a telemarketer at one of the companies I worked with. One of the nicest people I know, even if he was always sozzled. He moved away to work with his brother (I think) in Alberta somewhere after his mother passed away (whom he shared his house with in Toronto). A few people at work told me he was an engineer by education, but took to drinking after his wife left him. I don't know the truth of this story.

His favourite pharse was "Discombobulated Dipsomaniac." Literally, it means a disturbed or a confused alcoholic.

Funny Hindi words.

Oongli means finger.

Chi-chi means little finger.

Foosie (rhymes with Lucy) is a soundless fart and Pud (with a soft d) is a noisy fart.
